Manual Handling

This Course is to provide the students with training in manual handling with support to meet all the standards set by the All Wales Manual Handling Passport.

Course Content:

• Module A - Spinal Awareness, legislation, policies, ergonomics, risk assessment, safe handling procedures, team handling & communication

• Module B - Inanimate load handling & practical ergonomics

• Module C - Sitting, standing & walking

• Module D - Bed mobility

• Module F - Hoisting

Additional Information:

By the end of the course students will be able to:

• Describe the function of the spine

• Be able to discuss manual handling legislation

• Discuss company policies on manual handling

• Examine & discuss manual handling risk assessments

• Describe ergonomics

• Know safe handling procedures

• Demonstrate safe inanimate load handling

• Demonstrate appropriate skills in assisting a client to sit stand & walk

• Demonstrate appropriate skills in assisting a client to move in bed

• Demonstrate appropriate skills in the safe operation of a hoist
