Our manual handling course takes employees through the standard introductions such as the extent of the problem, the injury types sustained together with typical causes.
In 2017 there were 194,000 reported cases of serious back injury reported to the HSE. The industry groups most affected (in order) were: Construction, Farming, Transport and health care. With 8.9 million working days lost due to back injury or other related joint type injuries, it is apparent that employers must do all that is possible to try to reduce the risks from manual handling.
The Train to Safety manual handling course takes employees through the standard introductions such as the extent of the problem, the injury types sustained together with typical causes. However, what makes our course so effective is that we actually demonstrate safe lifting techniques specifically to reflect the employees’ routines.
The manual handling regulations state that employers should complete risk assessments if the need for manual handling could not be eliminated. Theoretically this would require the employer to complete potentially an infinite number of risk assessment. One for every slightly different lift, combined with each person lifting.
By training the employees to complete their own dynamic risk assessment for smaller or less dangerous loads, can radically reduce the amount of risk assessment. The staff would then be able to make their own judgement whether a more detailed and formal risk assessment would be required. The feedback from employers who have utilised this method has been extremely positive. We offer comprehensive Manual Handling training courses and Manual
