The course develops key production planning skills and knowledge required for the student to understand effective manufacturing planning scheduling and control. This course helps operators move into a supervisory management or team leader role within the production industry.

  • The core unit, Introduction to Manufacturing, Planning and Control Operations, provides you with a great foundation level understanding of the industry, while the optional units enable you to tailor your globally recognised qualification to match your individual learning objectives.   • The Introduction to Manufacturing, Planning & Control (MPC) Level 2 unit of study is wide ranging and provides the learner with a clear overview of the processes involved in the planning of production whilst identifying the key functions.
  • The Introduction to Manufacturing, Planning & Control unit provides the learner with an understanding of the basic principles of Manufacturing, Planning & Control. This includes an overview of the process involved in the planning of production and the layouts that can be used on a shop floor to ensure production is efficient. Processes used in the manufacturing process of engaging external organisations and how to determine if a Make or Buy decision is required are shown.

Indicative content includes:

  • Manufacturing processes – levels of planning, inputs to manufacturing
  • Factory Layouts – fixed position, functional, cell, and product
  • Functions to Manufacturing – quality, warehousing, procurement, human resources
  • External Organisations involved in manufacturing – procurement, subcontracting, and outsourcing
  • The Procurement Cycle
  • Make or Buy Decisions

To achieve the Level 2 Diploma you need to complete a minimum of 40 credits. Every unit has a credit value assigned to it. Your core unit, Introduction to Manufacturing, Planning and Control Operations, provides 10 of the credits you need. This means you can select units from the extensive list below to provide you with the remaining 30 credits required to achieve your qualification.
