Therapeutic Massage tends to be more appropriate for athletes and physically active people who could suffer from repetitive stress injuries or severe muscle strain or tension.

Spa Tech Institute was created in 2001 with the merger of Headhunter II School of Cosmetology, founded in 1976, and the Polarity Realization Institute, founded in 1980 by Nancy Risley.
The school currently has four locations in North Andover, Plymouth, Westboro, Massachusetts and Westbrook, Maine. Nancy is the founder of Polarity Realization which evolved into Spa Tech Institute.
As a leader in the industry of energy work, Nancy was on the first Committee of Standards of Practice for Polarity Therapy in 1989. She was one of the first Registered Polarity Practitioners (RPP), Board Certified Polarity Practitioners (BCPP) and Educators (RPE).
Along with those achievements, she was also the first chairperson of the Certified Governing Board for Polarity Therapy and was honored by the American Polarity Therapy Association for being a leader in the industry
Additionally, Nancy developed her own body of work known as RYSE (Realizing Your Sublime Energies). Nancy is the author of RYSE, Tools for Life. She and her teaching team have produced over 28 books for massage, polarity, and aesthetics and 14 RYSE meditation recordings.
Chinese records dating back 3,000 years document its use; the ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians applied forms of massage for many ailments; and Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems.

This 565-contact hour course combines classroom lecture with a literal "hands-on" laboratory setting, including 50 hours of clinical work. Students who successfully complete the course are prepared to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) exam

The 500-Hours direct/on ground Massage Therapist Program is intended to prepare students for state certification and gainful employment as Massage Therapists upon graduation from the program.
