Massage uses various techniques to enhance function, aid in the healing process, decrease muscle reflex activity, inhibit motorneuron excitability, promote relaxation and well being, and as a recreational activity.
This practice is an extremely effective form of massage, relating to the ‘reflex points’ on the sole of the foot. These points correspond to the organs and systems in the body, and are linked to those organs through ‘energy channels’, ‘zones’ or ‘meridians’.
Students who study these two units will learn the skills and knowledge required to provide full body relaxation massages, and provide body treatments that incorporate body massage techniques, electrical currents, body scrubs and wraps.
This qualification reflects the role of massage therapists who provide general health maintenance treatments. It does not reflect the role of a remedial massage therapist. Practitioners may be self-employed or work within a larger health service.
