Overview
The textile and garment industry is one of the major sectors in India that contribute to the country’s overall economic development. With advancements in nano and microencapsulation, there is now a new frontier and future for fashion and apparel design and manufacturing. However, traditional textiles, fibres, weaves and fashion are losing their originality due to the vast industrialised output of the textile and garment sectors worldwide.
There is a need to retouch the sensibility of global fashion with a revival in the ancient treasures from across India with trending regional ethnic styles blended in with global designs.
Our postgraduate M. Des. degree program is structured to give students a clear understanding of fashion design. We help our students become skilled and creative professionals.

To create avenues for entrepreneurship.

International competitions
Students can earn 3 or 4 credits by participating in national or international competitions in order to be exempted from elective courses.
Exhibition and shows
Participating in art and design or fashion related exhibitions and shows both help in exposing students to the real working of industry and account for credits in the grading system.
Elective specialisation
There are 4 electives in the programme, grouped in a way that students can choose to specialise in a chosen field or stream. However, if the student wishes to opt for an elective module that spans multiple streams, the case may be considered subject to the affordability of academic logistics and approval by the module leader, HODs and Deans.
Online elective
Students can choose electives through the online mode through MOOCs, SWAYAM, NPTEL and other equivalent platforms, provided they follow guidelines prescribed by the University for such courses.
Group project
Group projects involve up to 5 students working together on interdisciplinary topics. Students can make teams in consultation with faculty members from across departments. As part of this, students are required to develop a report for assessment and need to demonstrate the working of a product. The IPR rights of all such work lies with the University only.
Industry internship or project
Students can opt for an internship in an industry, a business or research organisation during this module. Alternately, students can undertake a mini project that requires self-directed study to be pursued with an affiliated faculty member. It is also necessary for the student to submit a report and make a presentation to the members of the panel constituted by the HoD for assessment.
Dissertation and publication
This course has two parts – a Dissertation and Publication. Each student has to undertake individual work on a dissertation around a chosen relevant topic. The topic needs to be approved by the committee constituted by HoD. When the dissertation is converted to a technical paper, it can be published in reputed conferences or journals.
