Course Details

The ICT industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. As a result there's a huge demand for industry-ready ICT graduates who have the right mix of technological skills and business awareness.

  • The depth of business enterprise and project-based learning sets the MInfoTech apart from other qualifications. During the programme, you’ll complete a 10-week internship where you’ll work on a real-world project.
  • The ICT Graduate School is a collaboration between the University of Auckland and the University of Waikato and offers postgraduate study in Information Technology that aims to develop smart, industry-ready ICT graduates who will meet this need. The MInfoTech will be awarded jointly by the University of Auckland and the University of Waikato. 

Programme structure
The MInfoTech offers three options for students from different study backgrounds who would like to advance their ICT career.

180-point masters students must complete the following:

  • Industry internship worth 60 points
  • At least 45 points from technical skills courses
  • At least 45 points from complementary skills courses
  • Up to 30 points from other approved 600 or 700-level courses

120-point masters students must complete the following:

  • Industry internship worth 60 points
  • At least 45 points from complementary skills courses
  • Up to 15 points from other approved 600 or 700-level courses 

240-point masters students must complete the following:

  • Industry internship worth 60 points
  • 60 points: COMPSCI 718 and COMPSCI 719
  • At least 45 points from technical skills courses
  • At least 45 points from complementary skills courses
  • Up to 30 points from other approved 600 or 700-level courses

Please note: The Late Year Term (November) intake is for students applying to the 240-point programme only.

Industry internship

  • To prepare you for the world of work, you’ll complete a 10-week, full-time internship. This integral component provides a unique opportunity for you to work on a real-world project while developing your technical expertise.
