The resultant labour force gap will require an agile, skilled workforce prepared to take on these new challenges.   • The MIT degree provides students with valuable, real world IT industry experience that marks them not just as technically skilled, but job ready for this rapidly evolving industry. 
  • This is a contemporary and hands-on degree that has been thoughtfully designed in conjunction with industry to prepare students for the digital age, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and capabilities that are essential to competently and confidently operate in varying domains of IT across diverse roles and industries. 

MIT Degree Structure
The ICMS Master of Information Technology offers:

  • 4 x Core subjects, including an IT Consulting Project
  • 6 x Specified electives
  • 2 x WIL Professional Placement subjects (Internship)
  • 2 x Elective subjects
  • 14 Subjects in total (64 credit points)

Professional Placement (Internship)

  • With a strong emphasis on industry relevance, the ICMS MIT degree goes beyond theoretical knowledge, placing students in real-world IT job settings as an integral part of their qualifications.
  • As well as your IT Consulting Project, as an ICMS MIT student you will have the opportunity to complete a Professional Placement (internship) in an Australian or international business within your two (2) Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subjects, included within the degree.
  • Professional placements are arranged for you by the dedicated ICMS WIL team who will work with you to secure an individually tailored internship role aimed at building your Australian business networks and connections, as well as providing real life work experience that supports your future career aspirations.

  • Rapid digital transformation of businesses caused by COVID-19 pandemic in Australia and globally has created a new expectation from customers and employees for information technology (IT) to be at the centre of productivity.
  • The demand for skilled IT professionals is reflected in the various skilled migration occupations and pathways that are currently available in Australia.

Specialisations in Big Data or Cyber Security
ICMS also offers the Master of Information Technology with two optional specialisations:

  • Master of Information Technology (Big Data and Analytics)
  • Master of Information Technology (Cyber Security)

Traditional skills such as statistics and data management will no longer be sufficient and new skills such as data visualisation, data analytics programming, big data and artificial intelligence (AI) will be increasingly more important.

Cyber security professionals can use their skills in big data to protect against cyber-attacks and to identify threats and abnormal behaviour. 

Knowledge of data science can help cyber security professionals to make connections in relation to minor abnormalities and to assist them in understanding the bigger picture. By being able to understand big data sets and comparing real time data, data science knowledge can assist cyber professionals in identifying potential threats in advance. 

For these reasons the specialisation MITs will be in high demand by global organisations.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the ICMS Master of Information Technology you will able to:

  • Demonstrate mastery of the IT discipline, employing relevant industry standards and best practices in an organisational context. 
  • Design, develop, and implement contemporary and creative IT solutions to complex real-world problems, exhibiting critical judgement, advanced knowledge and specialised skills that underpin the key aspects and dynamics of the IT sector.
  • Research, contextually apply and exchange information with specialist and non-specialist audiences using emerging digital technologies and conforming to the principles of information ethics and relevant regulatory provisions. 
  • Effectively collaborate with others from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of IT proficiency, using fit-for-purpose communication methods
