Course Details

As the world today is on the wavelength of rapid growth in both universal and personalised medicine, developments in molecular biology will also signify the highly probable increase in the demand for more accurate diagnosis and personalised therapy. This programme will address that demand by providing graduates who are able to combine the latest radiological technology with the optimum patient care standards that is the trademark of um’s excellence in medicine. 

Radiology is directing medical imaging technologies to diagnose and sometimes treat diseases. Originally, radiology deals mainly in translating x-ray images into diagnosis for the patients. However, the technological advances of today enable the experts of this field to utilise other state-of-the-art equipment, such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging to better diagnose and treat diseases.

The programme of study comprises three stages as follows:
Stage I in the first year of study comprising:

  • Basic training in Radiological Medical Physics, Radiological Anatomy and Radiography, Radiological Technique, Contrast Media and Drugs, Basic Trauma Radiology and any other disciplines of Radiology that may be determined by the Department from time to time;
  • Training in cognate subjects of radiology that may be determined by the department from time to time; and
  • The keeping of a log book by the candidate to document radiological procedures performed by him.

Stage II in the second and third year of study comprising:

  • Training in all aspects of diagnostic radiology, imaging techniques and interventional radiology;
  • Training in cognate subjects as may be determined by the Department from time to time;
  • The keeping of a log book by the candidate to document radiological procedures performed by him; and
  • The commencement of a research project.

Stage III in the fourth year of study comprising:

  • Advanced training in all aspects of diagnostic radiology, imaging techniques and interventional radiology;
  • Advanced training in cognate subjects as may be determined by the Department from time to time;
  • Gase studies; and
  • A research project.

Intake Schedule

  • Once a year in the month of June.
