Overview

The study, design, development, construction, and testing of mechanical and thermal sensors and devices, such as tools, engines, and machines, is known as mechanical engineering.  Mechanical engineering careers focus on developing technologies that solve a wide range of human needs.

Automobile engineering, manufacturing engineering, power plant engineering, thermal engineering, and mechatronics engineering (a combination of electrical, computer, and mechanical engineering) are all mechanical engineering subjects.

Mechanical engineers are mostly employed in engineering services, R&D, and manufacturing. Mechanical engineering has its roots in the industrial revolution, with the introduction of the steam engine, automated manufacturing, and railroad transportation demands necessitating increasingly innovative and sophisticated engineering solutions.

Programme Objectives

A mechanical engineer will have the ability to identify, formulate and solve complex engineering problems using the principles of engineering, science, and mathematics;  and the ability to use engineering design to create solutions to meet specific needs, taking into account global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors, as well as public health, safety, and welfare.

A mechanical engineer will have the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences an understanding of ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and the ability to make informed decisions that consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and social contexts Ability to work effectively in a team where members provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks and accomplish objectives and develop and conduct appropriate experiments, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to reach conclusions.

Career Scope

Mechanical engineering is one of the most in-demand specializations right now. Students with a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering can apply for a variety of job positions in the government and private sectors based on their interests. Some typical job profiles for a Mechanical Engineering graduate are listed below: -

Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer, Assistant Mechanical, Engineer Purchase, Quality Control, Executive Service Engineer, Instructional Designer.
