Course Details

This one-day course is ideal for Management, Team Leaders and those in a HR Role. It is designed to give delegates information about mental health conditions and support individuals, spotting signs and promoting own wellbeing.

The champions support the MHFAIDERS. Delegates gain; an understanding of common mental health issues, knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness, ability to spot signs of mental ill health and skills to support positive wellbeing.

Objectives:

This Mental Health Champion course will help delegates understand mental health issues and provide the skills to support positive wellbeing.

Duration:

  • Course duration is 1 day

Who should attend?

This Mental Health Champion course is suitable Management, Team Leaders and those in a HR Role.

Course Content:

This one-day course allows delegates to qualify as a Mental Health Champion, covering the following topics:

  • An understanding of common mental health issues

  • Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness

  • Ability to spot signs of mental ill health

  • Skills to support positive wellbeing

Session One will give delegates an understanding of; Mental Health First Aid, mental health and stress in the workplace, Stigma and discrimination, depression, anxiety disorders, other mental health issues (eating disorders, self-harm, psychosis), early warning signs of mental ill health and alcohol, drugs and mental health.

Session Two will give delegates an understanding of; suicide, applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan (Action 1: Approach the person, assess and assist with any crisis/ Action 2: Listen and communicate non-judgementally/ Action 3: Give support and information/ Action 4: Encourage the person to get appropriate professional help/ Action 5: Encourage other supports), Recovery, Building a mentally healthy workplace  and Action planning for using MHF.

Outcomes:

Successful delegates will be issued with Mental Health Champion (MHFA) certificate. It is recommended that Mental Health Champions attend a Refresher course every 3 years. Please be aware that once completed delegates will be Mental Health Champions not Mental Health First Aiders.

Delegate Preparation:

There is no requirement for delegates to have any previous knowledge of Mental Health First Aid. However, due to some of the sensitive subjects course delegates should be aware that certain parts of the course can be challenging.
