Course Details

A relaxing class of meditative slow stitching whilst learning about the health benefits of creativity. This class is all about enjoying the process and how to use textile therapy as a means of stress relief.

Bring a bag of scrap fabric and using a piece of wool blanket that will be provided, you’ll create a small improv quilt with big stitch hand quilting. Although it doesn’t need to have an end goal, finishing techniques will be demonstrated, including how to turn your quilt into a sculptural 3D wall hanging or a useful pouch.
Suitable for beginners and experienced.

 

Course Outline:

Saturday-

  • Improv piecing and tacking

  • Design skills including working with colour, pattern and texture

  • Big stitch hand quilting

  • Working with different types of thread, fabric and needles

 

Sunday-

  • Creating sculptural 3D forms

  • Variety of finishing techniques including facing and binding

  • Hanging methods or closures for a pouch

 

In this course you will:

  • Learn about the health benefits of meditative stitching and how to implement them into a busy life

  • Improv piecing and quilting by hand

  • Design skills including working with colour, pattern and texture

  • Finishing techniques of facing, binding and making sculptural shapes
