MMA is a combination of multiple Martial Arts. It’s is the fastest growing sport in the world. Fighters test themselves against one another using various different styles to see who is the better more skilled fighter.
With regards to MMA classes, we work very differently. If you want to do MMA competitively or just to learn, you are only allowed to attend the MMA class or (fighter training) once you have a good basic understanding of all the above styles. You need to have spent a lot of time in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Boxing, Muay Thai, as well as Wrestling.
The reason we have set it up like this is so that when someone eventually gets to a level where they to know enough to be invited to the MMA class, it is not necessary to still have to teach them how to throw a punch, or a kick or a knee, or perform a basic take down, or have to go through the basics of submissions and escapes.
At this point we can focus on MMA. Cage work, ground & pound, takedowns & takedown defence, MMA variations and start putting the full package together. Since we have implemented this system we have found a great progression in the guys overall knowledge.
This is makes for better coaching and understanding of the concepts being taught.
