Any person operating an aerial lift or power elevated work platform is required to have safety training and certification. NATT Safety Services’ program covers safety protocols for workers required to operate aerial lifts.

Many worksites will require practical, site- specific training (in addition to theory training) before a worker is certified to operate machinery.

  • OHSA Regulations

  • Different types of elevating work platforms

  • Fall protection requirements

  • Equipment inspection, care and maintenance

  • Safe operating practices

  • Operator responsibilities 

  • Centre of gravity and tipping

  • Control mechanisms

  • Ground control, barricading, and electrical awareness

  • Written exam

  • Practical evaluation

Participants must achieve a minimum 80% on written exam to pass.

 

Legislation

CSA Standards B354.1-04, B354.2 and B354.4. The operation of any aerial platform is subject to certain hazards that can only be protected against by having competent, careful personnel trained in the intended use, safe operation, maintenance, and servicing of this type of equipment.

Employers’ obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and the Construction Projects Regulation include ensuring workers are adequately trained in the use of fall protection systems at Ontario construction sites [O. Reg. 213/91, section 26.2].

  • Any person operating an aerial lift or mobile elevated work platform is required to have safety training and certification.

  • ** Pre-requisite for this training is Working at Heights training or Fall Arrest training.
