If you’re passionate about sport, studying at Brighton MET is a great way to learn how to earn money from the subject you love in the city you live in.
Our sport programmes will improve your subject knowledge and help you to master the skills you will need to gain employment. Based around our on-campus sports facilities, this course prepares you for a wide range of careers in the fast-growing sports and leisure sector.
Our industry-experienced teachers combine theory and practical learning, whether you’re interested in coaching, fitness training, leisure management, sport therapies or one of the many other exciting roles in the sector.

Option to join the boxing academy

You can also bolt on additional training and competition with our Football or Boxing Academy. This will be discussed at interview.

Who can apply?
Start at Level 2 if you have at least 3 GCSEs at grade 3 (D/E) or above, including English and Maths.
If you do not have the above grades, you can start on the Level 1 course or the Sport and public Services pathway course. An interview with a course tutor will be required.
What happens next?
Upon successful completion of Year 1 of this course you can continue to Year 2.
After Year 2, you can move on to the MET’s specialist part time course in Personal Training or sports coaching apprenticeships.
You could also continue your learning journey with university or HE college courses, such as Sport Science, Physical Education with PGCE, Sports Coaching, Football Studies, Sports Management, Athletic Training, Fitness and Personal Training, Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition Science or Sports/Leisure Management.
Alternatively you can progress to employment.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed throughout your course via practical activity observations, academic coursework and industry placements. Assessments are based around ‘real-life’ projects and industry or workplace scenarios including work experience. Your final grade will be awarded as pass, merit or distinction.

Designed as a one-year, full-time course of study initially, with the option to continue studying for a second year in order to complete the full Sports Coaching National Diploma.
This qualification provides an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills required when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools, academies and free schools.
The level 3 award is a short introductory course which prepares new entrants for teaching in the lifelong learning sector. If teaching, tutoring, or training is part of your remit, you may be required to progress to a further qualification appropriate to your role.
