Course Details

Managers with both general and specific responsibilities for health and safety at work are increasingly turning to competency based training to help them implement the significant obligations that health and safety legislation now places upon them.

The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) have specially developed the National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health as an examination based qualification in recognition of this training requirement. It is also recognized by the lnstitute of Occupational Safety and Health as an appropriate qualification for Affiliate grade admission.

 

Aims and Objectives

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the common hazards and unsafe practices likely to be found in the workplace and know the appropriate preventative and remedial actions to be taken.
  • Monitor and audit management policies, procedures and performance in securing health and safety in the workplace.
  • Interpret the requirements of health and welfare legislation and guidance which apply to the workplace
  • Assist in the preparation and regular review of safety policies
  • Use proactive and reactive strategies to prevent or reduce the risk of accidents and ill health
  • Organize the work of a safety committee and manage relations with worker representatives
  • Select an appropriate inspection technique for a specific work situation and undertake workplace inspections

The Course Covers

The programme consists of three parts:

  • Part A: Identifying and Controlling Hazards - A five day practical training course.

  • Part B: The Management of Safety - A five day practical training course.

  • Part C: Practical Assessment, Revision and Examination - A two day revision course incorporating a practical test, management report and final examination.

Any Manager, Supervisor or Safety Practitioner who wishes to acquire a formal qualification and extend their knowledge and skill in applying successful health and safety practices.
