Networking/Network Security

This course is an introduction to networking. The course is for both the Computer Networking Specialist Certificate and the A.A.S.

The course also serves as a stand-alone course for those looking for more expertise to understand and build a SOHO network. This course is ideally completed at the beginning of the program.

Introduction to networking introduces the students to the underlying concepts of telecommunications and networking. It provides a general overview of computer networks and focuses on the terminology and technologies used in current network environments.

Business and computer science students will learn a basic understanding of network setup and how to access data over the network.

In this course we cover the basic elements of the Transmission Control Protocol and the Internet Protocol, the basic technologies that implement the Internet and computer networking.

In addition to TCP and IP, the course covers network media, connection layers, network layers and transport layer protocols. Also included are routing, broadcast, multicast, and network address translation. IP version 4 and IP version 6 are both covered.

IT Essentials provides an overview of the basics of computing and an introduction to advanced concepts. It provides an overview of general network theory and opportunities for hands-on experience, career exploration, and soft skills development.

The modules provide a comprehensive overview of basic to advanced network concepts with an emphasis on theory and practice. Network Security introduces the basic security concepts and skills required to install, troubleshoot, and monitor a network to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of data and devices.

The ultimate goal of this course is to prevent network breaches. The program is the ideal network and network defense course for organizations and individuals.
