If you’re working in the industry or are interested in a career supporting the health and well-being of people, the UCOL New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community Services) (Level 4) with strand in Mental Health and Addiction Support will provide you with an entry-level qualification.
You will learn how building respectful relationships with people, family or whānau in a mental health and addiction setting can change lives. You will apply values, knowledge and skills that foster hope and build resilience.
An educational institution with a history dating back to 1896, UCOL Limited has a proud and well-earned reputation for supporting our community’s learning.
This connection with community is crucial to what we do, and it ensures that our programmes help students develop in-demand skills. Many of our lecturers are practitioners as well as teachers, and our partnerships with industry mean that the majority of our students get hands-on work experience.
As a modern Institute of Technology and Polytechnic, UCOL’s specialties include Applied Engineering and Trades, Health and Sciences, and Humanities and Business. Our environments have been designed to enhance student learning, supported by a relationship-based teaching approach. By studying with us, students learn valuable life skills and can make a difference.
As of 1 April 2020, UCOL Limited is a subsidiary of New Zealand’s national vocational skills and training Institute, Te Pūkenga. Acting as a parent organisation to our nation’s 16 vocational institutes and Industry Training Organisations, Te Pūkenga will create a strong, unified system that makes collaboration easier. While we foster relationships with other institutes, our mission remains the same - we exist to inspire students, businesses and communities to succeed.
Our Mental Health First Aid course provides you with skills and knowledge to offer immediate first aid and assist the person experiencing a mental health crisis in finding appropriate help and support.
Reiki Two is also a two day course. You will be provided with one attunement and taught three sacred Reiki symbols. The symbols which are empowered, have an ability to manifest. The symbols can be used to improve your life.
Based on modern psychology and ancient philosophy, mindfulness meditation is for anyone who'd like to have some fresh insights into what makes up our quality of life.
Graduates of the Mental Health and Addiction Support strand will also be able to apply mental health and/or addiction tools and strategies when working alongside tangata, family and/or whanau to support autonomy, foster hope, and develop resilience.
Reiki is the life force, prana and chi, that runs through all of us. It guides us, helps us to heal from the inside and out. With Reiki you will be guided to find your own healing process, a process that is unique to you.
