The Nurse Aide I training program is a 162-hour, non–credit course that prepares graduates to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills. Emphasis is on the process of aging including the mental, social, and physical needs of each client.

The students will complete class, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Clinical learning experiences are obtained in the hospital and long-term care facilities. In all employment settings, the Nurse Aide I will work under the direction and supervision of licensed personnel.
Upon satisfactory completion of the NA I program, the graduate is eligible to take the North Carolina NNAAP exam. An exam fee of $140 is required. Upon achieving a passing grade, the graduate will be listed as a Nurse Aide I by the Division of Health Service Regulation.

Students in the Nursing program at Ivy Tech learn to care for real patients in a variety of clinical settings throughout the program including lab simulations, long-term care, hospital, labor and delivery units, pediatric units, emergency department, ICU, surgery and mental health facilities.
This training prepares you to enter the field of nursing. You will be prepared for entry-level employment in long-term care facilities, doctor's offices and hospitals. Preparation for licensure/certification.
Students will learn how to provide basic nursing care to residents and learn how to communicate effectively based on the psychosocial needs of residents and their families.
In this course, students learn essentials skills for providing basic care to patients in a hospital, long-term care facility, home health, assisted living, or rehabilitation facility.
This course introduces concepts of basic human needs, health/illness continuum and basic nursing skills in long term care and the home care environment. Skills are taught in a simulated laboratory setting utilizing demonstration and role-playing.
