We offer the Occupational First Aid Level 1 course in accordance with WorkSafeBC. The course will take eight hours and will cover a number of topics which include CPR and automated external defibrillator training.
Phoenix Fire Prevention offers three levels of WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid courses. Read below to see what you will learn in each course and how to sign up for the course recommended to you.
Occupational First Aid Level 1:
We offer the Occupational First Aid Level 1 course in accordance with WorkSafeBC. The course will take eight hours and will cover a number of topics which include CPR and automated external defibrillator training.
When you complete the course, you will receive a WorkSafeBC-approved certificate that will be valid for two years. In order to complete the course, you must take a multiple-choice exam to demonstrate your practical skill competency and achieve at least a 70% to pass.

Workplace administrative requirements for first aid attendants

Occupational First Aid Level 2:
Occupational First Aid Level 2 is still considered to be an introductory first aid course, so you do not need any prior training or experience to take this course. The course will take 36 hours (one week) to complete and it’s required that your occupational first aid attendants take this course.
Taking this course will go above and beyond what you learn in the first level as you will get a whole week of first aid training that covers both practical and theoretical training.
Here is what you will learn when you take the Occupational First Aid Level 2 course at Phoenix Fire Prevention:
First Aid Skills: When you complete this course, you will be equipped with the skills to perform the priority action approach when a medical emergency occurs.
Identify Circulatory Emergencies: You will be able to identify circulatory emergencies and manage critical interventions for people are either conscious or have a decreased level of consciousness.
Manage Critical Interventions: Learn how to use C-spine control so that you can help somebody breath more easily without hurting their spine.
Assess Medical Conditions: You will learn how to manage, identify and assess when somebody is in need of medical aid for soft tissue injuries.
Identifying Respiratory Emergencies: You will learn how to identify and manage respiratory emergencies.
Conduct Secondary Survey Components: You will learn how to conduct the secondary survey component of the priority action approach.
You will need to complete an exam after you finish the course and achieve 70% or higher to get your certification.
Occupational First Aid Level 3:
The Occupational First Aid Level 3 course is a two week (70 hours) program created for remote work sites or employers with large workforces and are more than 20 minutes away from the nearest medical centre.
Here is what you will learn about and practice during your time in the Occupational First Aid Level 3 course offered at Phoenix Fire Prevention:
Basic life support and CPR
Critical airway and respiratory
Patient assessment
Use of oxygen therapy equipment and bag valve mask
Interventions with C-spine management (including insertion of oral airways)
Circulatory interventions and management
Small wound, soft tissue, and fracture management
Rapid transport criteria
Suction

In this 2.5-3 hour course, learn the basics of CPR and how to use an AED.
Winnipeg First Aid is pleased to offer workplace-approved standard first aid and CPR courses. This course comes standard with CPR level “C” certification, however, candidates can opt for a higher level CPR HCP to partner with this course.
Learn how to assess and treat airway, breathing, and circulatory emergencies; and manage medical, musculoskeletal, and environmental emergencies.
For those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. Workplaces must follow the first aid requirements outlined in Regulation 1101.
This 2-day program is designed to help rescuers recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies and those with the potential to become so if not treated.
