Off road utility vehicles have become common place on golf courses, large construction site and forestry applications for some time now. Their versatility and load carrying capacities make them a valuable work tool.

Our off road utility vehicle course gives operators insight into the limitations and the unsafe conditions they can get into through operation of these vehicles. We have carried out off road utility vehicle training for a large number of councils and golf courses in Northern Ireland.

Off Road Utility Vehicles are often referred to as their model names such as Gator (John Deere), Mule (Kawasaki), RTV (Kubota), Workmax (JCB) and Ranger (Polaris)

 

What topics are covered on the Off road utility vehicle course?

There are a number of topics covered on the course including;

  • Comply with legal requirements with an emphasis on Safe Practice

  • Health and safety laws

  • PUWER Regulations

  • Identify the risks associated with using an Off road utility vehicle

  • Select and use appropriate PPE

  • Understand the main causes of accidents

  • Identify the controls and components

  • Understand the function of all instruments

  • Carry out daily checks as indicated in the Operator’s Manual

  • Start up and drive over a variety of terrain and ground conditions

  • Carry out a Risk Assessment and plan the route

  • Move and stop safely

  • Parking machine

  • Refuelling machine

  • Moving off on a hill

  • Operating on all types of terrain

  • Operate the Off road utility vehicle safely on a variety of slopes

  • Identify loading/towing capacities

  • Drive with loads and trailed equipment

  • Understand legal and practical requirements for travelling on the public road
