Improving Mental Health and Productivity in the Workplace

Today, stress-related ailments and other mental issues are the single biggest cause of absenteeism and workplace disability claims. One in six workers will experience depression, anxiety or problems relating to stress at any one time. This workshop will help you identify warning signs in yourself, your colleagues, and those who report to you. It will provide you with strategies for increasing awareness, creating a supportive culture, and identifying resources for your team’s mental health. It will also address the stigma often associated with mental health and how this is often part of the problem in itself.

Learn how to assess the various sources of stress you or your staff may be dealing with, and discover strategies for dealing with each one, including when third party help is advisable.

Learning outcomes

 

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Better understand important aspects of providing support, with the realization that a positive working environment leads to happy and engaged employees, which in turn helps to drive the organization forward
  • Understand mental health issues that are common to almost everyone, and how to identify signs in yourself and others
  • Provide greater understanding of causes and symptoms
  • Understand the importance of supportive culture in facilitating discussion if appropriate, and/or ensuring optimal awareness of, and support for, assistance options through employer-provided employee assistance programs if available, as well as other channels
  • Utilize and share strategies that recognize mental health is almost always multi-factorial and is interdependent with healthy relationships, as well as physical health, including sleep, exercise and nutrition
