A popular community orchestra, established in the 1990s by the residents of Greenhill Road, Nelson. There are no auditions and most music comes from standard orchestra repertoire.

Greenhill Orchestra accompanies young soloists in a Rising Stars Concert each year, as well as combining with other regional orchestras to perform at least two other public concerts.
Greenhill Orchestra members are welcome to attend the Senior Youth Orchestra practices which take place Tuesdays 4.30pm before Greenhill rehearses.
Situated in the heart of Nelson, we offer opportunities to learn an instrument and to rehearse and perform as an individual or as part of a group. We are also a performance venue and our audiences enjoy concerts held in the Nelson School of Music Auditorium and brand new performance space in the Rainey Wing.
We are a non-profit, charitable organisation and operate with generous support from Nelson City Council in the form of an annual grant as well as funding from a small number of key funding partners.

The Howick School of Music is home to the Howick Youth Orchestra and HSM Concert Band as well as providing orchestral and band opportunities for younger players.

Youth Orchestra is made up of players from all over Northland.  With the conductor’s guidance, they explore and express messages the composers have hidden in their music, and share it with their audience.
Perfect for students in the Free Beginner Classes and basic Affordable Group Classes. Under the guidance of Anna Maitland, children will learn to follow a conductor, work in a group, gain knowledge about orchestral etiquette, and hone their pitch and rhythmic skills.
Out of School Music classes are intended to give all primary school children the opportunity to learn a musical instrument.
