Paediatric Basic Life Support Training

Learn how to save an infant or child’s life in a medical emergency through the development of basic life supporting skills.

Aim

Gain the basic first aid skills needed to quickly and effectively act during a medical emergency involving an infant or child.

Objectives

• Managing an incident and the Primary survey

• Recognition, management and care of an unconscious casualty

• Know when to summon emergency services

• Carry out the recovery position

• Identify the care of the airway

• Demonstrate Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on a Infant and Child using manikins

• Know how to deliver rescue breaths to an infant or child

• Recognition and treatment of medical conditions, i.e. anaphylaxis

• Management of choking and controlling bleeding

At the end of the course delegates should be able to:

• Outline how to manage an incident and the Primary survey

• Identify the recognition, management and care of an unconscious casualty

• Outline the care of the airway and Cardio Pulmonary Resusciation – Infant and Child

• Identify the recognition and treatment of medical conditions, i.e. anaphylaxis

• Demonstrate how to deal with choking and how to control bleeding
