Paediatric First Aid Course is for those who might have to recognise and manage emergency situations or manage minor everyday occurrences when looking after young children and infants.

This qualification meets Ofsted requirements for those working in early years settings and uses the criteria for effective paediatric first aid training found in Appendix 1 of The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Practice Guidance document. 

The current EYFS statutory framework requires at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate to be on the premises or outings at all times when children are present.

Our courses are fun and interactive and give you lots of practising of the skills you have learned to make you confident in your ability to deal with a variety of first aid situations.. It is ideal for child minders, teaching assistants, teachers , those that work in nurseries and parents.

Our Paediatric First Aid Course is now Blended learning which means there is a 6 Hour online training element which you complete in the 6 weeks prior to the face to face classroom date AND a 6 Hour face to face classroom date where we will teach you about the essential lifesaving skills required for your qualification.

Throughout the day you will practice essential lifesaving skills and have the chance to ask your trainer any questions. You will also complete a small number of practical and written assessments, this will include assessment on your online training topics.

Content of our Paediatric First Aid Course

  • Planning for first aid emergencies involving babies and children

  • Dealing with emergencies involving babies and children

  • Resuscitating babies and children

  • How to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Recognising and responding appropriately to;-

  • shock in babies and children

  • anaphylactic shock in babies and children

  • electric shock in babies and children

  • bleeding in babies and children

  • burns and scalds in babies and children

  • choking in babies and children

  • suspected fractures in babies and children

  • head, neck and back injuries in babies and children

  • cases of poisoning in babies and children

  • foreign bodies in eyes, ears and noses of babies and children

  • eye injuries in babies and children

  • bites and stings in babies and children

  • effects of extreme heat and cold in babies and children

  • febrile convulsions in babies and children

  • emergency needs of babies and children with chronic medical conditions, including epilepsy, asthma and diabetes

  • meningitis and other serious sudden illness
