Course Details

Who should attend Paediatric First Aid Training?

This course is designed for people who are required to be first aiders within a childcare setting, for example schools (pre, primary and secondary), nurseries, after school care clubs, childminders and carers of children at home. Delivered over two consecutive days or one day per week over two weeks. The course syllabus meets the requirements of both Ofsted Early Years and the Childcare Register.

What will I learn on this Paediatric First Aid course?

On completion of training, successful candidates will be able to provide first aid for an infant and child:

  • Who is unresponsive and breathing normally, including child and infant resuscitation.

  • Who is unresponsive and not breathing normally.

  • Who has a foreign body airway obstruction with external bleeding.

  • With injuries to bones, joints and muscles.

  • With a chronic medical condition or sudden illness such as sickle cell crisis, diabetic emergencies, asthma attack, allergic reaction, meningitis and febrile convulsions.

Candidates will understand how to administer first aid to an infant or child:

  • Who is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and cold.

  • Who has sustained an electric shock with burns or scalds.

  • Who has been poisoned, bitten or stung.

  • Who is suffering from shock.

  • With minor injuries, including cuts, grazes, bumps and bruises, small splinters and nose bleeds.

  • With conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose.

  • With head and spinal injuries.

  • With anaphylaxis.

Assessment and Certification

Candidates will be assessed throughout the course. Evidence of underpinning knowledge will be required for certification.
