Made Institute owner, Rachel Ford, started teaching couture sewing classes out of her live/work loft space in Old City, Philadelphia in 2012. She wanted to share the beautiful techniques she had learned from her 10 years at the Philadelphia Opera to this city's growing number of makers and designers.
Learn how to alter and repair garments, both ready-to-wear and handmade. Students work on their own projects, practicing making alterations for themselves. Students also participate in group discussion and demonstrations, which teach how to think about making alterations and repairs for others.
Gain an overview of how to get from idea to market. What it takes, all the pieces and parts, pitfalls, missteps, but most of all, how to do it right. The hard truths about what it takes to succeed, how long it might take to get to market and what it might cost. We'll talk you through it all.Â
