Personal Development Planning
Employers are increasingly aware of the importance of investing in their staff and often have structures and processes in place to provide opportunities for the training and development of their employees.
Nonetheless, managers also need to take personal responsibility for renewing and updating their skills and knowledge throughout their working lives. Personal development is a continuous lifelong process of nurturing, shaping and improving skills and knowledge to ensure maximum effectiveness and ongoing employability.
Personal development does not necessarily imply upward movement; rather, it is about enabling individuals to improve their performance and reach their full potential at each stage of their career.
Personal development planning is the process of:
establishing aims and objectives (or goals) - what you want to achieve or where you want to go, in the short, medium or long-term in your career
assessing current realities
identifying needs for skills, knowledge or competence
selecting appropriate development activities to meet those perceived needs.

The Chartered Management Institute (CMI) works with business and education to inspire people to become skilled, confident and successful managers and leaders.
Delivering on our Mission
With a wealth of practical qualifications, events, and networking opportunities on offer, we help people boost their career prospects and connect them with other ambitious professionals across all industries and sectors. In fact, we have more than 100k people training to be better managers right now.
Backed by a unique Royal Charter, we are the only organisation that can award Chartered Manager status – the ultimate management accolade.
Our thought leadership, research and online resources provide practical insight for both today’s leaders and the next generation. This insight also means we can confidently represent our 180,000 plus membership community when speaking to policy makers.
This is all in aid of one simple goal: to increase the number and standard of professionally qualified managers.
Our Royal Charter
Established in 1947 as the British Institute of Management, CMI was founded in the wake of the Second World War to help rebuild British industry. Our goal remains the same today as it was then: to raise the quality and standard of management in the workplace.
Having developed the very first diploma in management studies, we have remained at the forefront of management training and thinking ever since.
In 2002, Her Majesty’s Privy Council granted our Royal Charter, designating CMI as the standard-bearer for the profession of management, meaning we are the only organisation able to award Chartered status.
We ask the right questions, we listen, we explore with you and ensure we are able to provide you with what you need. If we don’t have it, we will hook you up with one of our professional associates who can.
This is designed for those who truly want to push back the limits of how much they can expand their consciousness and evolve at an exponential rate. Ask on other trainings for more details.
This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to support them to achieve their potential. Participants will develop their understanding of key theories of communication, motivation and emotional intelligence.
In order to fulfil their role efficiently and successfully, health and social care workers need to have a clear understanding of their role and duties. Furthermore, it is an induction requirement that new workers are trained to understand their role.
The Professional Development Award (PDA) is a unique award - you set out the learning pathway, designing a bespoke academic qualification to suit your career and learning aspirations.
