Phlebotomy for Healthcare Professionals

  • The session will begin with a theoretical component followed by demonstrations and then practise.

  • Participants will practise on simulation arms – never more than 2 participants per arm.

  • You will be given ample opportunity to practise on the manikins.

  • Once confident at taking blood from the manikin you will have the opportunity to take blood from a fellow participant providing they give consent.

Aims of the workshop:

  • To identify and describe materials and equipment needed in performing the phlebotomy procedure

  • To be aware with the various phlebotomy sites which are considered acceptable and not acceptable

  • To perform with a high degree of mastery and efficiency every required step of the phlebotomy process

  • To recall the safety issues related to the performance of phlebotomy
