Course Details

Students will learn to develop a teaching or coaching philosophy that will allow for opportunities to explain and demonstrate physical activities or sport skills to students and athletes. Through a clear philosophy, students will learn to develop teaching/coaching techniques, methods for planning and organizing physical activity exercises, and communicating with others. 

This course is designed for teachers and coaches at all levels, especially those entering into the professions of physical education and/or athletic coaching. To be successful, a teacher or coach must develop a certain proficiency in a number of basic areas: (1) philosophy, (2) techniques, (3) planning, (4) organizing, and (5) communication with students, athletes, other teachers, and sports administrators.

For those individuals that have been working in the teaching or coaching professions for some time, this course will give you a chance to re-evaluate your philosophy, technique, style, and communication ability.

No matter the level at which you find yourself, teaching and coaching are professions of continuous learning and continuous growth. It may be a new specific skill, strategy for teaching physical activities, or a training program to better prepare students or athletes.

The course is designed to assist students with recognizing the importance of teaching and coaching others about physical activity, including sport skills development. The purpose of this course is to demonstrate to prospective teachers and coaches the benefits of teaching or coaching individuals to enhance their level of physical activity or sport participation.
