Course Details

The objectives of the Plant Manager/Incident Commander Training are that delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the key factors of preparing for, responding to, and maintaining control throughout the development or escalation of an emergency situation.

  • Learn how to manage communication, emergency-related information and put into place predetermined plans at the point when the emergency alarm has been raised, to the point when the Plant Manager/Incident Commander is assured that the emergency is over.

  • Understand how stress can impact on individuals and team performance during emergencies.

  • Have the opportunity to role-play as the Plant Manager / Incident Commander in a number of specific types of emergency scenarios is a key element of the training program, and is backed up by constructive feedback from the course instructional team.

 

Target Group

The target group for Plant Manager/Incident Commander Initial Response raining is personnel who are either designated as being in charge of, are members of, or provide support to an incident management team in an emergency.

 

Prerequisites

  • There are no prerequisites for the Plant Manager/Incident Commander training program

 

Examination

This is an appraisal course. Following the training, the delegate will receive an OPITO-approved Plant Manager/Incident Commander Initial Response (9030) certificate and a performance appraisal of the delegate’s knowledge and performance gaps that are identified during the training program.

 

Course Contents

Delegates will go through following content during the course:

  • Review, manage and assess information during emergency situation in a timely manner.

  • Establish priorities and take effective action.

  • Implement predetermined emergency plans and procedures based on current emergency.

  • Efficiently communicate information and instructions.

  • Communicate effectively with all appropriate external agencies

  • Monitor and control resources.

  • Evaluate progress and communicate changes in plans and priorities.

  • Effectively delegate authority and manage individuals and teams.

  • Recognize and deal with stress in themselves and others

Following theory session realistic emergency scenarios will be simulated to appraise the delegates capabilities as plant managers / incident commanders. The range of emergency scenarios will include a combination of the following elements:

  •  Injured personnel

  •  Multiple casualties

  •  Missing personnel

  •  Loss of containment

  •  Loss of communication

  •  Loss of evacuation, muster points or temporary refuge

  •  Stressed personnel

  •  Road traffic incident

  •  Sabotage incident

  •  Extreme weather condition

  •  Loss of essential facilities

  •  Loss of key personnel

  •  Rapidly developing situation leading to information overload

  •  Evacuation of the site

  •  Environmental concerns and effects

  •  Situation on adjoining plant
