Course Details

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER r9(1)) requires that users of Work Equipment be adequately trained for the purposes of health and safety. This also applies to persons who manage or supervise people at work (PUWER r9(2)). 

The aim of this course is to train people in the skills and knowledge needed to achieve the standards of competency required to carry out pre-use inspection and safe and correct use of Portable Power Tools in the workplace.

This course will also cover the basic requirements of the: Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992 (PPE Regulations), The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH Regulations), The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 and the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 (with reference to HAVS).

  • Statutory Instruments & Standards
  • Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work
  • Analysis of Accidents
  • Safeguarding of Machinery at Work (FIATT)
  • Pre Use Inspections
  • Safe operation of hand operated power tools, including Hazards and Precautions
  • After Use Checks
  • Equipment Inspection, Testing and Maintenance requirements
  • Personal Protective Equipment requirements
  • Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS) and Noise at Work
  • Written Test Paper
  • Appraisals
  • Abrasive Wheels training will still be required, in addition to this course, for any person who wishes to inspect and mount abrasive wheels at work.
