The postgraduate diploma in cybersecurity (pgdcy) has been developed by the london school of business and finance (lsbf) in singapore as a qualification for students aiming to embark on a career in one of a wide range of industries, and/or for students aiming for a higher education qualification in a subject allied to infocomm technology specialization in cybersecurity. 

  • Modules in the PGDCY course are mapped to the learning objectives of the U.S. NIST/NICE framework and cybersecurity work roles adopted by Palo Alto Networks Cybersecurity academy certification courses. In addition, the PGDCY course is developed based on The Skills Framework for Infocomm Technology (SFW for ICT) an industry standards framework by Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), Singapore, to promote ICT skills mastery, lifelong learning in higher education.
  • During the course, students are fully supported, and their development is checked frequently by progress assessments. Student performance and satisfaction are monitored to ensure that the course meets students’ academic and personal development needs, and industry contacts ensure that the programme is relevant and suitable for the demands of a career in the industry.

The credits gained by achieving the Postgraduate Diploma in Cybersecurity may equip students for entry to a career in the industry.

  • The aim of the Postgraduate Diploma in Cybersecurity Studies is to give students the best possible preparation to commence a career in one of a wide range of industries and prepare students for further study. Graduates of the course will be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the basic underlying academic concepts and principles associated with the broader discipline of Cybersecurity.

The aim of Postgraduate Diploma in Cybersecurity is to provide students with:

  • Hands-on practical skills in Cybersecurity Infrastructure Configuration Using Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls
  • Theory and extended configuration features of firewalls
  • An understanding of theories and concepts of the subject area, and the ability to communicate these accurately to a range of peers.
  • Skills that can be used in a wide range of situations and contexts.

Whilst the Postgraduate Diploma in Cybersecurity Studies will be equipped to enter employment successfully in today’s competitive business landscape.

Learning outcomes

  • Graduates of the Postgraduate Diploma in Cybersecurity should be able to understand and apply, within the employment context, theories, and concepts from the Cybersecurity specialized area. Students may register for Palo Alto networks’ certification examination on their own to be certified PCNSA and PCCSA - Certified Cybersecurity Associate and/or Certified Network Administrator.

On successful completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Evaluate cybersecurity principles.
  • Demonstrate how to secure a network computing environment through the Application of security controls.
  • Gain a general understanding of how to install, configure, and manage firewalls for the defense of enterprise network architecture.
  • Gain insights about the theory and steps for setting up the security, networking, threat prevention, logging, and reporting features of Next-Generation Firewalls.
  • Demonstrate enhanced capability in analytical, diagnostic, investigative, and writing skills in assigned tasks.
  • Advance themselves to attempt Palo Alto Networks Certified Cybersecurity Associate (PCCSA) certification examination and Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator (PCNSA) which help validate technical competencies and knowledge.

In addition, holders of the Postgraduate Diploma in Cybersecurity should have developed the qualities and transferable skills necessary for employment requiring the exercise of some personal responsibility.

Modules

  • Cybersecurity Essentials- This module will equip students with the nature and scope of today’s cybersecurity challenges, strategies for network defence, and detailed information about next-generation cybersecurity. Students will also deploy a variety of security methodologies, along with technologies used for implementing secure network environments. Using Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls, students will learn to evaluate cybersecurity principles and demonstrate how to secure a network computing environment through the application of security controls.
  • Cybersecurity Infrastructure Configuration- This module develops the skills and techniques required for installing and configuring firewalls. Students will gain a general understanding of how to install, configure, and manage firewalls for the defence of enterprise network architecture. Students will also learn the theory and steps for setting up the security, networking, threat prevention, logging, and reporting features of Next-Generation Firewalls.
  • Security Assessment & Testing- This module will equip students with networking fundamentals, WAN technologies, basic security and wireless concepts, routing and switching fundamentals, and configuring simple networks. This module allows students to gain practical experience to install, operate and troubleshoot a small-sized branch network, including network security.
  • Cybersecurity Prevention and Countermeasures- This module develops the skills and techniques required for students to learn the theory and extended configuration features necessary for setting up traffic handling, advanced content and user identification, quality of service, GlobalProtect, monitoring and reporting, and high availability of next-generation firewalls.
