What’s the course about?

This course is designed to provide attendees with practical knowledge and skills for implementing basic behaviour analytic strategies in school and home settings. Attendees will learn strategies for helping children acquire important communication, social and academic skills, how to determine some reasons why challenging behaviours occur, and how to replace problem behaviours with more appropriate skills. They also will learn about important ethical considerations when implementing behaviour analytic strategies.

Who should register for this course?

The course is appropriate for all levels of professionals who work in schools, including teachers, learning support assistants, speech therapists, nurses, occupational therapists, and head teachers.

Anyone who works with children with skill deficits and challenging behaviour would benefit from attending this course. The course is also suitable for parents of children with skills deficits and/or challenging behaviour who wish to learn more about behaviour analytic strategies that can be used at home.

Who are the instructors for the course?

The course is taught by Christopher Seel, who is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst and UKBA (cert) and is part of the USW Behaviour Analysis Clinical Team. He has a wealth of experience working with individuals with a range of challenging behaviour in home, school, prison, and clinical settings.

May I obtain the Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) credential by attending this course?

This training program is based on the RBT Task List (2nd ed.) and is designed to meet the 40-hour training requirement for RBT certification. The program is offered independent of the BACB. To become an RBT, you also will need to complete a competency-based assessment at the end of the course.

This assessment is mandatory if you would like to become an RBT, but optional if you do not. Becoming an RBT also requires passing the BACB’s RBT exam, which is administered by the BACB and is separate to the competency assessment. Once qualified, RBTs must be supervised by a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) twice monthly to maintain the qualification.
