About
Wellmother was established by Suzanne Yates in Bristol 1990 to offer a holistic approach based on supportive touch, for women, babies and families preparing for pregnancy, birth and beyond.
This approach is relevant for all clients at all stages of their life because the maternity period is the foundation of our life. Since 1990 Wellmother has expanded to cover support for all the different phases of our life.
Here you will find support and information for anyone interested in how the maternity period influences us all at any stage of our life and how, male or female, we can learn to mother ourselves and mother our Earth.
You may or may not be a parent to be, already a parent or a practicing health professional. The Wellmother approach has grown out of how bodywork, especially massage and shiatsu, can support the well being of parents and babies.
However, this special and magical time influences the rest of our lives, and so our approach is valuable for anyone of any age wanting to connect with their potential. At the heart of this approach, are the powerful Extraordinary Vessels of Traditional Chinese medicine. (TCM).
Suzanne Yates, founder of Wellmother is writing a book about about how we can support ourselves at different stages of our life. She has created a Substack Blog “Rewriting your Story” with content which will be included in the book and welcomes feedback. We also have a YouTube channel where you can find videos.
Suzanne continues to work with clients in Bristol and France while developing the Wellmother approach world wide. She has a team of teachers who support her.
You can find practitioners who have studied the Wellmother approach and who can support you before, during and after your pregnancy by going to the Find a practitioner page.
If you are a health professional then you can find the relevant courses (mostly Shiatsu practitioners, Massage therapists and Midwives and Doulas ) on line and in person.
Level 3 is the foundation to sports massage therapy so this means that you can treat clients with postural problems, tension or who need sports specific maintenance to aid their recovery. To deal with both acute and post-acute injuries you will need to progress onto the level 4 or 5 course.
This will be an introduction to body massage where you will be required to undertake a full body massage assessment. You will be taught massage techniques, basic anatomy & physiology, client consultation, and homecare advice.
The primary goal of Swedish body massage is to relax the entire body by rubbing, kneading, and manipulating the muscles with long, flowing strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart.
We are a centre of excellence for the provision of education and training in Complementary Healthcare. The Centre is fully equipped with audio visual and other teaching aides, the latest electric hydraulic massage couches, portable couches, massage chairs and 12 curtained cubicles.
This course covers reading and interpreting the feet as well as performing relaxation and pressure techniques. It also includes the theory and history behind the reflexology treatment.
