Course Details

Private Pilot Licence (PPL):

  • Student pilot permit is required and can be attained at age 14 (for solo flight)
  • PPL application which can be completed at age 17
  • An aviation medical (class 3 or higher) must be completed
  • 45 hours of ground school
  • Successfully complete the Transport Canada private pilot written exam
  • A minimum of 25 hours of dual flight training (with a flight instructor), while three hours must be cross-country hours and five hours must be instrument time
  • A minimum of 20 hours of solo flight training, while five hours must be cross-country flight time
  • Successfully complete the private pilot flight test
  • Instrument and navigation training
  • An aviation medical (class 3 or higher) must be completed.

 

Ground School Schedule & Examinations:

  • A minimum of 45 hours of ground school must be completed in order to obtain your private pilot licence.
  • The Transport Canada written examination will take place at a Transport Canada examination centre. In order to pass your examination, you need to achieve at least 60% in all four mandatory subjects.
  • The exam requires an overall passing grade of 60%. You’ll be tested in the four main areas: Air Law, Navigation, Meteorology, and Aeronautics.
  • You must also pass an oral English Proficiency Exam.
  • Once you are ready, your flight instructor will help you book your written examination.
