Private pilot training has two parts, theory and practice.
Private pilot training has two parts, theory and practice. Please note that both can be done independently of each other but they must both be completed to obtain the license.
In summary, you can do all the theory before you start flying or start flying before you start the theory. We still advise you to do them simultaneously if it is possible for you.
The theoretical component lasts 72 hours of lessons. It’s available online, so you can do it at your own pace at a time of your choosing.
You will develop knowledge of everything directly or indirectly related to aviation such as, among other things, meteorology, aerodynamics, navigation, engines and the laws that govern civil aviation in Canada.
Purchase Of Theoretical Training - Private Pilot License
During the practical part, you will learn, with your instructor, how to safely handle and control your device. This part includes a minimum of 45 hours of flight including at least 12 hours alone on board (SOLO) and will allow you to develop the skills and competencies necessary to obtain this license.
The number of flight hours to obtain the private pilot license will vary depending on the candidate. The more often you fly, the faster the progress and will get closer to 45 hours of flight.
The Canadian average for obtaining a private pilot license is approximately 65 hours of flight time.
During the first flights, you will have to follow approximately 12 hours of preparatory ground lessons with your instructor who will talk to you in more detail about flight procedures.
The flights are based on your schedule, you decide the pace at which you want to carry out your flights. The higher the frequency of your flights, the faster your training progress will be. There is no secret, it's all in practice!
Aircraft rental fees and instructor fees are paid as the flights progress. Finally, you will have to pass a theoretical exam (PPAER) and successfully complete a flight test with an examiner designated by Transport Canada.
