This course will introduce Purchasing as a business discipline with a focus on the Total Cost of Ownership for products and services, and Supplier Relationship Management.
Topics include the Purchasing Cycle, Centralized vs. Decentralized purchasing, the preparation of documents for RFI and RFP processes, as well as the various costs involved in purchase decisions (acquisition, ownership, obsolescence, etc.).
Students will develop an understanding of supply management and commodity strategy, supplier qualification, selection and management, and strategic cost management.
The CDI Winnipeg campus is available to everyone in the area looking to further their education or upgrade their skills. Choose from programs in business, healthcare, and technology.

The act of buying goods and services calls for a specific set of skills called purchase negotiation skills. Since the purchasing department of an average company utilizes 40 to 60 percent of each income dollar on replenishing its own commodities, from raw materials to services.
Students will learn about the procurement operations structure, strategic sourcing, strategic sourcing process, measuring procurement process performance, global procurement and future trends.
Students will be introduced to the purchasing process, sourcing decisions, global sourcing, and ethics. Issues such as supplier relationships, supplier selection, ethical sourcing, and sustainability will be discussed. Public purchasing will be introduced.
