This first aid course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to manage emergency first aid situations, including treating an unconscious casualty, performing CPR and controlling bleeding. HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is the standard course required for employment in many industries and job roles.
This course is mandatory for those working in security, childcare and education, aged care and disability and for roles including Workplace First Aiders and for Continuing Professional Development for Nursing.
Structure
We run our courses as a mixed mode delivery. This means you need to complete a pre-course theory assessment online prior to attending a CPR practical session. You will take your knowledge from the First Aid Learning workbook, which will give you the underpinning theoretical knowledge you require. The workbook will be sent to you electronically.
Pre-requisites
You are required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test and Assessment online prior to enrolling. This is to determine if you have the necessary skills to successfully complete the training.
If you find the tests difficult, we suggest contacting Star Training as we may be able to recommend support which may assist you. The LLN test and Assessment will be sent to you as a link.
You must complete the electronic theory component and LLN test at least 48 hours prior to attending your practical training day, which includes reading learning material and completing assessment questions.
Do not skip components of the learning material, you must read each section as this is important fundamental learning. If you have not completed and submitted the LLN test and the assessment prior to the practical training day, you will not be admitted to class.
The reading and assessment will take approximately 8 hours to complete depending on your skill level. On enrolment, you will be given access to the student portal via an email link to access your materials.
We prefer candidates are at least 14 years of age to attend this program. For students under the age of 18, a parent or guardian will have to sign an enrolment form on your behalf and accept responsibility for you.
Please ensure you wear comfortable clothing to allow you to participate in practical demonstrations. Please advise staff if you have a physical condition that affects your mobility, your knees or your back, as CPR practice can be physically demanding and may aggravate an existing injury.
Award
Upon successful completion of the course candidates will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for the Unit of Competency HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. The Australian Resuscitation council recommends you refresh CPR annually and your full qualification at least every three years.
