PTE

Pearson Test of English (PTE) is a language proficiency test taken to measure the command of non-native English language speakers in the English language. PTE is a computer-based examination that lasts for 3 hours.

PTE is recognized in various universities and the result is available within 48 hours of taking the exam. Because it takes less time, it is beneficial because you will know how to improve and what to do next. This is a language test for those interested in international studies and immigration.

PTE Exam Modules

There are two types of PTE courses: PTE general Training and PTE Academic Training. They both consist of reading, writing, listening, and speaking sections. PTE Academic is generally taken by those students who want to study in international colleges and universities. PTE academics are highly preferable in Australia and New Zealand and ease one way towards better universities. The scores for PTE are valid for two years. PTE Dates are available throughout the year.

PTE General training is taken by students who want to travel abroad for work purposes and study. PTE General scores are acceptable around the globe. Unlike PTE Academic, the dates for PTE General are available thrice a year; in May, June and December.

PTE Exam Section

The PTE examination contains four modules but is conducted in three sections.

• Speaking and Writing : Speaking and Writing will be 54-67 minutes long and will comprise questions of seven different types. This section consists of Personal Introduction, Read Aloud, Describe Image, Re-tell Lecture, Summarize Written Text, Short description, and So on.
• Reading: The reading section of PTE is 29-34 minutes long. There will be six different question types and will come in the format of Fill in blanks, Multiple choice, Re-order paragraphs, etc.
• Listening : The Listening section of the PTE section will last for 30-43 minutes. It will contain Audio clips and Video clips, and eight different question types. Summarize spoken text, Highlight Correct Summary, Highlight incorrect words and write for dictation are some of the question types.

PTE- Grading System

PTE has a computer-based grading system, and the examinee will get the score within 48 hours of the examination. The score is calculated analytically, considering the communicative and enabling skills of the examinee.

Under communicative skills, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills are evaluated whereas in enabling skills, grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, and written disclosure are evaluated.

For providing the score, they add up all enabling skills scores, then the sum is divided by six. The average sum of the enabling skills factors will be the fifth contributing factor along with the other four communicating skills scores for the overall score. Here, enabling skills can play a decisive role if the examinee's communicative skills are on the borderline.
