Course Description:
The R Programming Introduction course will help students learn how to perform data analysis with the R language and software environment, even if they have little to no programming experience.
Students will learn how to use the essential R tools they need to know to analyze data, including data types and programming concepts. The course also examines real data analysis in action by covering everything from importing data to publishing results.
Additional content and demonstrations are provided for users of Power BI and Tableau. Students will learn how to incorporate R results into these powerful business intelligence packages.
Course Topics:
Writing a simple R program
Understanding what the language can do
Using data types like vectors, arrays, lists, data frames, and strings
Executing code conditionally or repeatedly with branches and loops
Applying R add-on packages, and packaging your own work for others
Learning how to clean data imported from a variety of sources
Understanding data through visualization and summary statistics
Using statistical models to pass quantitative judgments about data and make predictions
Troubleshooting issues when writing data analysis code
Target Student:
This class is for the non-programmer who wants to gain a basic understanding of R. Additional demonstrations will show how R can be integrated with Tableau and Power BI, but the primary focus of the class is for individuals who are using R-regardless of where the results are used.
Prerequisites:
No prior programming experience is necessary. Some background in statistics is helpful, but not necessary. No Power BI or Tableau experience is required.
