Welcome to New York Law School, an independently operated institution. Since our founding in 1891, we’ve forged our own path — and are home to students who do the same. We're reinventing legal education to meet the needs of today’s students and tomorrow’s lawyers.
Our state-of-the-art Tribeca campus gives students easy access to nearby city courts, law firms, nonprofits, private companies, media brands, startups, and Wall Street; it’s an unbeatable launchpad for your legal career.
Proudly embracing the city as our classroom, we adopted the motto “We are New York’s law school.” We offer full-time and part-time J.D. programs, as well as an LL.M. in Taxation program. Around 1,100 students are enrolled at NYLS.
Everyone is welcome at NYLS. Our students are known throughout the legal community for their drive and passion. They're leaders and changemakers from different backgrounds with unique experiences–making our community diverse and vibrant. They’ve worked hard for everything they’ve got, and they make our institution stronger.
Our graduates are builders, icons, and visionaries. Our early alumni were founders and partners at prominent law firms including Proskauer, Davis Polk, Jackson Lewis, Milbank, and Paul Weiss. They’ve broken down barriers and achieved historic firsts in law, business, and government.
Our alumni serve in all levels of the judiciary, in large and small law firms, as global leaders in industry, and as national and local elected officials.
Over the 2015–16 academic year, NYLS celebrated its 125th Anniversary, a tribute to our rich history and a look ahead to our vision for the next 125 years. Our Evening Division celebrated its 125th year in 2019.
