Ellenwood Equestrian Center offers English riding lessons year around to folks of all ages and abilities. Our emphasis is on dressage – we do not teach any jumping. New riders learn all the basics necessary to continue into the beautiful art of dressage, should they desire to get more serious with their riding.

We accept beginners who have never ridden before to advanced dressage riders looking to hone their skills. Our stable is very diverse in our clients’ desires, from riders who are just looking to have fun and some weekly recreation to students who are competing at regionally recognized dressage shows.

All lessons combine the horsemanship aspect of the sport with the actual riding. Every student learns how to groom and tack up their horses; this is part of every one hour lesson. Learning about horse care is a valuable part of the overall riding experience and makes for better equestrians.

Another unique aspect of our barn is that we welcome “one-time-only”, as we have dubbed the folks who just want to come for a one-time riding experience. We have couples come out for dates, ladies’ groups, families, you name it, we welcome them all and give them the same attention we give to the regular weekly students.

Everyone leaves delighted and we can feel good in the knowledge that we have shared our fun sport with one more family. Helmets are offered free of charge for all riders, so there is nothing you need to buy in order to get started in our lesson program.

Please wear sturdy hard-soled shoes for your lesson. Gymshoes are ok, but no flats, sandals, or Crocs are allowed for riding. When students are ready to purchase their own gear we are happy to recommend good tack stores.
