Course Details

After the introduction of the new sentencing guidelines, the average fine under the Management of Health and Safety Regulations in 2018 was just over £100,000.  Organisations still struggle to create suitable and sufficient risk assessments, record significant findings and take action to reduce risk.

This course provides an up to date approach to dealing with the process of risk assessment. It provides guidance on the steps necessary to provide an effective risk assessment process. The course provides delegates with the opportunity to explore what Regulation 3 actually means.

How have the courts clarified concepts such as reasonably foreseeable risk? Delegates will understand which risks need to be assessed in detail and how to avoid spending too much time and resource on risks that are not significant.

The course will consider the importance of effective risk reduction and the implication of Section 40 of the Health and Safety at Work Act in a risk management context. Finally, it will look at what to do about risk assessments when things go wrong.

The course does not provide forms or the 5-step to risk assessment, it teaches delegates how to deal with risk assessment in a pragmatic and effective manner. The course is delivered by Human Applications who have over 25 years experience in designing and delivering risk assessment training in a huge number of organisations.

Learning Outcomes:

Delegates will learn how to analyse risk and to evaluate which risks are significant. They will have the opportunity to apply a simple set of rules to creating an effective risk assessment system. Applying the principles covered in the course will allow delegates to manage their risks more effectively.
