Every project would be on time and within budget if nothing ever went wrong. During this course, you will learn how to anticipate what can go wrong, assess the impact on a project, define backup plans, and keep the project under control if and when risks materialize.
You will explore the risk framework and develop skills to help you know how and when to identify risks, determine which risks to manage, develop a risk response plan, and track and close risks. The processes are based upon the Project Management Institute (PMI)® standard Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). This course includes hands-on exercises and group work using case studies.
The University of Ottawa’s Professional Development Institute (The Institute), originally branded the Centre for Continuing Education, was established over 25 years ago to offer higher learning opportunities to private and public-sector professionals and the community at large in Ottawa.
Over the years, we developed and nurtured expertise, growing significantly in both course offerings and new specialty knowledge areas, outgrowing its original mandate.
In late 2018, our organization was rebranded as the Professional Development Institute. The previous designation no longer encapsulated the breadth and depth of current and future offerings nor did it reflect our expanded mandate and reach.
Our Mission:
The Institute has been recognized as mission critical to the University of Ottawa and at the forefront of professional development in Ottawa and beyond.
We have greatly diversified our programming, developed strategic partnerships with both government and private industry, offered event-based learning and conferences, established co-designed programs with key government sectors, and more.
The highly sought-after “Institute” designation is rarely granted by the University administration, and done so only after very careful consideration.
A rigorous approval process, involving the President, the Provost and the Vice-Presidents, must validate the rationale and justification for the use of the ‘Institute’ label.
The fact that we have been granted this distinguished designation is testimony to our organization, its accomplishments and its potential, and to the dedication and engagement of our staff and expert instructors.
Our IT Project Risk Management course was developed because project risks can arise from multiple sources (including human resources, technology, and the operating environment).
This one-day course is designed to provide project managers with practical experience on how to manage Project Risk throughout the Project Life Cycle. Project managers and their teams are continually faced with how to ensure that Risk Management receives the attention it deserves on their projects.
By the end of this course, learners will be able to anticipate, evaluate, manage, and apply preventative measures to risks associated with their professional and business routines.
The Canadian Risk Management (CRM) designation is a widely recognized qualification that provides risk managers a foundation of knowledge and skills needed to identify, assess, monitor and limit risks.
The course Enterprise Risk Management Intro (Risk Management Training) is a comprehensive introduction to enterprise risk assessment. Starting with the basic principles of risk, the course explores the risk assessment process and its many techniques.
