The focus of this class is to get some basic impressions and physical understanding of the product and roasting process. You will learn how to and practice distinguishing between green coffee and roasted coffee, identify the change in roaster flame control, repeat the process of timing a roast temperature evolution, learn how to weigh and record the moisture of green and roasted coffee, and identify the first crack.

The International Barista & Coffee Academy (IBCA) was founded by SCA Diploma holder and world renowned coffee expert, Patrick O’Malley, and was the first SCA authorized training center in the Americas.
Our primary training center is located in Tempe, Arizona in our SCA certified coffee laboratory, one of 31 in the world. It is fully equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and supplies for you to have an exceptional, hands-on learning experience on your journey to SCA certification.
The facility is home to our professional coffee roasting company, Espresso Italia, and our cafe, Infusion Coffee & Tea, which allows you a behind the scenes look at the systems, processes, and knowledge necessary for any coffee business.
Our second training facility is in Dubai, Deira, UAE in collaboration with Sanremo Coffee Machines UAE. We also offer on location training at various sites around the world or at your place of business.
The Workshop offers public classes covering everything from home brewing to coffee roasting, private classes that can be customized to fit your goals, and corporate classes to bring your team together. Our goal is to create welcoming and accessible learning opportunities for everyone.
The Roasting module is a comprehensive program geared to equipping students in how to optimize the roasting potential of green beans. Â Each level offers theory and much hands on experience, enabling students to leave well trained and confident to further excel outside of the classroom.Â
This is a three-day class comprised of lecture, coursework, and practical evaluation. Its required prerequisite is successful certification in the Intermediate level for the same module, plus passing a required 6-month waiting period between Intermediate certification and enrollment in this class.
