The Royal School of Needlework is the international centre of excellence for the art of hand embroidery and offers a range of courses from beginners through to advanced. Founded in 1872, the RSN is steeped in history with unrivalled expertise in the techniques of hand embroidery.
We’ll teach you how to use an embroidery foot and hoop to 'draw' with stitches on your sewing machine and create embroidered works of art. Then decorate a calico bag and transfer your design with the help of textile artist Michelle Barnard.
This workshop will teach you a range of hand embroidery techniques, giving you an excellent introduction and enabling you to move onto completing a variety of embroidery designs. During this session you will learn the 14 basic stitches required to complete most hand embroidery designs.
This afternoon class explains how to drop the feed dogs on your machine and then work within a frame to create your own designs. We will also look at working with an embroidery foot.
Join us for a one day workshop devoted to becoming creative and experimental with freehand machine embroidery, even if you are wary of the outcome! If you are confident with a machine you can increase your range of abilities by learning new techniques.
