Course Details

This is a beginner-level Russian language course designed for students who have little or no prior Russian learning experience. Students are introduced to the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as to the Russian culture.

An emphasis on sounds, vocabulary, and sentence patterns will establish strong communicative skills which students will be able to use in authentic contexts and role-playing scenarios.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to carry on basic conversations in Russian as well as read and write sentences using the structures learned. Alphabet Unit and Unit 1 of the textbook will be covered.

 

Students who successfully complete this course should be able to:

  • Identify and write the Russian alphabet and spell given words
  • Identify Russian sound system
  • Greet and say good-bye, formal and informal
  • Introduce and give information about yourself
  • Introduce family and friends
  • Ask for information about someone else
  • Read Russian business cards
  • Identify Russian names and people
  • Use the verb "to be"
  • Use the nominative case
  • Use the appropriate form of "my"
  • Use the prepositional case
