Employees who use Lifting Equipment & Accessories on a daily/frequent basis. Riggers, Slingers, Steel Erectors, Construction workers.

 

Aims:

The course aims to provide delegates with sufficient knowledge to select suitable equipment and confidently undertake basic lifting operations.

 

Course Objectives:

  • Understand Legal requirements

  • Be aware of the different types of Lifting Tackle their properties and limitations of use

  • Safe Methods of Slinging the load. Load Angles

  • Pre- use daily Inspection checks of Lifting Accessories

  • Be Aware of Wear & Damaged to Lifting Equipment & Reporting Procedure

 

Course Outline:

  • H&S Act 1974 including LOLER 1998 & PUWER 1998

  • An Introduction to: Alloy Steel Chains: Wire Rope Slings: Fibre Slings, Flat and Round Polyester webbing slings, Shackles & Eyebolts. All Types of Lifting Equipment

  • Safe Working Loads and Factors of Safety.

  • Planning the Lift, Safe System of Work, Method Statement & Risk Assessment

  • Safe Slinging Methods, Load Angles

  • Crane Operations BS7121

  • Recognising defects & Reporting Procedure

  • Hand Signals used & Correct operation of Radio

 

Teaching Methods:

The Course consists of a series of prepared talks supported by Video/DVD. RSS Training Course & Site Safety Books supplied. Course delegates will be encouraged to participate in discussions and demonstrations. Information is based on LEEA Code of Practice, BS 7121 Pt 1, H&S Regulations & ACOPS, Demonstration with New & Used Accessories
