Pre-Requisites:

  • Operators should be over 18 years of age, Physically Fit with Good Eyesight & Hearing

 

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the principals of operating pendant or remote controlled overhead cranes

  • Learn the need to select the correct lifting gear & Safe Methods of Slinging Loads

  • Learn basic daily checks of equipment & Report Defects

  • Communicate effectively using – Hand and Radio

 

Course Outline:

  • Health & Safety 19, LOLER, PUWER, Safe Operation & use of Overhead Cranes and Lifting Equipment

  • Correct operations of Pendant & Remote controls Including Cab Controls

  • Estimation of weights of the Loads

  • Selection of Lifting Gear and Inspection Prior to Use

  • Safe Working Loads and Sling Angles

  • Basic checks of Crane & Lifting Equipment Prior to use

  • Safe Slinging methods and Angle Loading

  • Safe transfer & movement of loads and Hazard Observations, Safe System of Work

  • Signals – Hand & Radio Correct Communication

 

Teaching Methods:

  • The course consists of prepared Training lectures, video/dvd’s presentations and practical demonstrations. RSS EOTC Training Information Books, Site Safety Books, SWL Cards Information is based on LEEA Code of Practice, HSE Guidance PM55: H&S Regulation
